Perinton Pianists Studio
with M ary Jane Jones

About Us
Experience: Mary Jane Jones, NCTM (National Certified Teacher of Music) has been teaching piano for over 40 years. She is a New York State certified music teacher with a BS degree in Music Education, piano major, from SUNY Potsdam Crane School of Music in upstate New York. She taught elementary vocal and instrumental music in Massena and Rochester, NY early in her career. She established her private studio soon after the birth of her first child. Teaching piano is her passion.
Professional Certifications: Mary Jane is permanently certified nationally and through New York State through Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) and New York State Music Teachers Association (NYSMTA). I remain active in multiple music organizations, both locally and nationally: Rochester Piano Teachers Guild (RPTG), National Guild of Piano Teachers (NGPT), NYSMTA, MTNA, National Federated Music Clubs of America (NFMC), and Fairport Piano Teachers. I am currently on the board of NYSMTA, RPTG and NFMC. I have also attended three international piano pedigogy workshops (Stavanger, Norway; Graz, Austra; and Brisbane, Australia).
Professional Goal: To promote the love of music to all students. She believes in preparing students for a lifelong love and enjoyment of music as well as the potential of a career in music. While she recognizes that most students will not do music professionally, she prepares all students with solid, basic musicianship skills.

Student Activities: She believes it is important for youth to perform as part of their lessons, and her students activiely participate in National Guild and Gold Cup Auditions as well as other performances in the community. Students perform 4-10 piece programs for National Guild and two pieces for Gold Cup. Select students participate in additional performances based on skill and permitting schedule.
Recitals: Each spring, Perinton Pianists hold a piano recital to close out the year of lessons by sharing what they have learned. Students will perform two pieces in front of parents and friends. We also celebrate by handing out practice and performance awards and Gold Cups from auditions. It is a great way for students to take pride in their achievements.

Mary Jane truly has a passion for teaching and is so good with the students. All three of my girls have taken lessons with her over the years. They love to get their awards at the end of the year!
